Treatment Approach

Our goal is to offer behavioral health care to the residents of Geauga County and the surrounding areas who are experiencing mental health or substance-related issues. As many of you may know, those with severe mental illness have a life expectancy that is 20-25 years shorter than the general population. Addressing all the health issues of the individual in a comprehensive manner is more likely to have a positive outcome. At Ravenwood Health, we will pursue both physical and mental health recovery for the individuals we serve.

Trauma and Loss in Children (TLC)

TLC is a program of the Starr Global Learning Network and includes 6,000 Certified Trauma Specialists across the country.  TLC’s strength-based approaches are providing parents, educators, clinicians and childcare workers with innovative techniques to bring out the best in every child. Here at Ravenwood, we have 17 Certified Trauma Practitioners and 4 Certified Agency Department Trainers.

Trauma intervention is an essential part of treatment because of the impact it can have on the way a child views themselves and the world around them. Also effected are a child’s emotions, behavior, learning, and their ability to interact with others.

Trauma is a sensory experience because of what happens to the brain and memory during trauma.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client-centered approach that helps people explore and make positive behavioral changes by strengthening their motivation and commitment to change. The approach attempts to increase the client’s awareness of the potential problems caused, consequences experienced, and risks faced as a result of the behavior in question. MI accepts the fact that clients who need to make changes in their lives approach counseling at different levels of readiness to change.
